Kybella contains a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, an active ingredient that is
naturally occurring in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
As Kybella is injected, it works to target and destroy existing fat cells permanently,
leaving no room for fat accumulation in the future. This results in a noticeable reduction in fullness of the chin and jaw line with an improved facial profile.
After your initial consultation, you will receive a customized treatment plan that will
address your individual needs. The treatment itself is performed by delivering multiple, small injections into excess fat under the chin. The number of injections depend on the individual and the results they are trying to achieve.
There is no downtime required after Kybella, however, patients that experience side
effects may choose to take 1-2 days of rest until the issues subside. Mild discomfort has been reported in addition to swelling and are expected to resolve on their own. You may return to your normal schedule immediately.
The most commonly reported side effects include swelling, bruising, numbness,
discomfort, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area.
More serious side effects include hair loss, open sores, tissue damage or cell death at
or around the injection site, trouble swallowing, nerve injury, uneven smile or muscle
weakness.
As with all treatments, it’s important to keep in mind that results vary patient to patient. Many individuals won’t see results until after their second Kybella treatment. Optimal
results can take anywhere between 12-18 weeks.
All patients and their treatment plans vary, as do the number of sessions needed to
achieve their desired results. Typically, we recommend between 2-4 treatments,
however, some individuals may require up to 6 treatments once a month until
completion.
