A deep plane facelift is a facial rejuvenation procedure that involves tightening skin and muscles within the face to give a youthful appearance. As we age, we lose volume in our face and muscles begin to weaken, which leads to loose, lax skin. Our deep plane facelifts and neck lift procedure remove excess skin and firms up the underlying tissue, which smooths out deep creases and wrinkles.
The deep plane facelift concentrates on raising and repositioning muscles beneath the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system), and not just tightening and lifting the skin. Skin tightening without muscle reconstruction leads to unnatural results, and doesn’t give long-lasting effects. In a traditional facelift, this SMAS layer is repositioned and tightened, however, a deep plane facelift works both on and below this layer. An additional plane is created underneath the SMAS layer, giving more effective and comprehensive results. After the muscle is adjusted appropriately, the skin is re-draped, and excess is removed if necessary. As this approach is a more involved and intricate procedure, it’s important to choose a qualified surgeon who specializes in deep plane facelifts.
While facelifts, including deep plane facelifts, primarily address signs of moderate to severe aging, there is no age limit on who can undergo this procedure. Sometimes this surgery can be used as a preventative measure to combat more advanced aging signs. Some of the concerns that can be addressed by this procedure are:
If your aging concerns are too advanced to be treated with minimally invasive treatments like fillers or other non-surgical skin tightening procedures, a facelift can be the ideal way to achieve youthful, natural results!
We offer this procedure with local anesthesia (oral sedation) or asleep (IV sedation). At BeautyFix Plastic Surgery, we specialize in performing deep plane facelifts operating under local anesthesia. This option has many benefits for the patient, including a faster recovery, less swelling, and less need for medication. There are very few surgeons in the country who offer an awake deep plane facelift, which makes our practice unique. With our deep plane facelift, you’ll maximize your results and minimize downtime and pain.
Like other facial cosmetic surgeries, swelling and bruising post-op are common. When performed under local anesthesia, these effects are minimized further. Without IV sedation, patients experience a much faster overall recovery, take less time off of work, and have less pain. Immediately following surgery, a dressing is applied which will be changed within the first 24-48 hours. Patients may experience discomfort in the first day or two, which can be managed with pain medication, and will usually subside after this time.
Most patients are “Zoom ready” after just a week of downtime, and can resume most normal activities after about 2 weeks. There are no drains needed for this procedure. Results from this procedure are permanent. However, deep plane facelifts, like all facelift procedures, do not prevent future aging. Patients will continue to age and may need another treatment in 10 years if they so choose.
We perform all our surgeries in state of the art, AAAASF Certified operating rooms. We also provide the option of having your facelift under local anesthesia (Awake Face lift for faster recovery) with or without IV sedation.
In a traditional or SMAS facelift, the lower two thirds of the face and the neck are treated for signs of aging. This method is an excellent choice for older patients who are seeking to address sagging or volume loss. A deep plane facelift goes deeper than the SMAS layer to treat the underlying facial muscles for more dramatic results. It works on both the face and neck, but is especially effective in the midface region, and will enhance cheekbones and give lift in the cheeks. This technique reduces muscle tension which prevents them from pulling on your skin, creating smoother and more youthful contours. In general, a deep plane facelift will last longer and give more drastic results.
A mini facelift is a modified version of the traditional facelift. In this procedure, your surgeon creates small incisions around the hairline to lift skin on the lower half of your face. This procedure is effective in targeting sagging skin around the neck and jawline. There are fewer incisions, but the overall treated area is smaller. A deep plane facelift will focus more on the midface and cheek area, giving lift and volume back to the cheeks and accentuating the cheekbones as well as correcting loose skin around the jaw and neck. A deep plane facelift also accesses deeper within the skin layer, meaning that the results are more natural looking and last longer.
The deep plane facelift targets the mid-face region and reaches deeper layers of the facial muscle which results in a more dramatic results! Deep tissues are tightened and strengthened, the skin and tissue is lifted up, and excess is removed.
